Quartet121 is a New York City- and Philadelphia-based string quartet dedicated to the performance of new works. Molly Germer (violin), Julia Jung Un Suh (violin), Lena Vidulich (viola), and Thea Mesirow (cello) met while pursuing their master’s degrees in the Contemporary Performance Program (CPP) at Manhattan School of Music. In the quartet’s official first season they performed a program of contemporary repertoire at Tenri Cultural institute in NYC. Soon after, they performed at the CPP 10th Anniversary Alumni Showcase alongside critically acclaimed ensembles such as MIVOS Quartet, Loadbang, and TAK. They joined singer-songwriter Michelle Zauner in her project Japanese Breakfast for two sold-out shows at Brooklyn Steel, and performed portrait concerts of music by Matt Simon and James Diaz. In 2019 they will visit the Columbia University Music Department, University of Pennsylvania, and the Manhattan School of Music for performances and workshops, and travel to Canada as part of the BANFF Centre’s Evolution of the String Quartet summer festival.
